The Digital Dream Team worked together to develop a new market plan for Netflix. Our team felt that Netflix had a strong stance in the marketplace but simply needed to expand upon their market presence. Below are some of the main goals our team outlined for Netflix.
1. Expanding Consumer Markets
Currently, Netflix attracts middle to older women who are college graduated, married and hive higher incomes. Along with this demographic are supporting markets that Netflix should tap into. Netflix recently developed a contract with Disney to give more children and family friendly content. This type of new website change can help attract younger children who apart of the family. By advertising on gaming websites or daytime TV shows on channels such as Disney or Nick, Netflix can market to the children who would in turn, want their parents to become Netflix members. We also felt that while middle to older woman made up a large part of the market share, Netflix should attract men of this age demographic as well. There are many different genres of movies on Netflix and some may be more appealing to men which can be featured on social media sites to help promote men going on Netflix and viewing the content.
2. Increase Social Media
Just as any ecommerce site should, social media is crucial to the success of an online company. Sites such as Facebook and Twitter help enter into a two way communication stream with customers that allows long term relationships. Netflix can promote new shoes, content, and even existing movies to try and gain new members on the site. It also helps remind consumers that there is a lot of content on Netflix that is not offered by other competitors. This is also a great way for Netflix to ask consumers what type of changes they wish to see on the website in order to improve customer satisfaction. Our team also felt that it was important for Netflix to link all these social media sites in order to allow members to share what type of content they were viewing with their online friends. This type of consumer to consumer communication is a great way for Netflix to be advertised by existing consumers and create another reason for consumers to visit the website.
3. Premium Services
One of the things Netflix has struggled with is the option to provide new releases to be instantly streamed. Because this type of service would be very costly for Netflix, our team felt the company could offer a premium service that would allow members who pay a higher monthly fee to be able to access new releases for unlimited viewing. This would help create a more sustainable competitive advantage against their competitors as well as attract new members. Netflix offers movies, TV shows and even original content but some consumers are deterred from using the website because they feel that the movie selection is not current enough. Having a premium service would eliminate this doubt and help promote new members.

Project Update
The Digital Dream Team has been developing ideas based on our module II analysis to create an new marketing plan for Netflix. Our group analysis allowed the team to see issues in the company's marketing strategy along with big opportunities. Right now our module III is in the outlining process because our group wants to incorporate new marketing ideas learned in class into our project.
Our group has met twice outside of class and continues to develop ideas through the use of our shared google docs so any new ideas can immediately be shared with the other group members. Next week is spring break but our group hopes to meet and wrap up our module III for the following week.

Module 2
Last week the Digital Dream Team spent time completing module 2 for the group project. This consisted of making an internal and external analysis and SWOT of the industry and Netflix specifically.
Our group split up different sections of the paper as following:
Kate: External market products, consumers, size and trends
Internal organization history, products, growth, security, pricing and marketing
Damarley: External uncontrollable factors, competitive analysis
Internal infrastructure
Ana: SWOT analysis and chart
Each individual worked alone on each part but we all edited each others sections using google docs to organize our paper. We met twice to go over our presentation and look at our paper as a final product. We made sure all our sources were cited correctly and we peer reviewed the paper to make sure it flowed well and had no grammatical errors.
Our group gained a lot of insight into the industry and Netflix specifically when doing this portion of the project. Knowing where the current market stands and potential growth or declines in the future help set up how a company should go about trying to remain successful. Netflix has done a remained fairly stable in the market place and is among the top three competitors for the industry.
Looking further into Netflix' history and internal structure gave our group a better grasp has to what the company did will and what it needed to improve on. We began to develop a sense of the type of consumer's Netflix had and let us have a visual outline of where we wanted the marketing plan to go.

Digital Dream Team
This week, all group members met Monday, February 11. During this group meeting we put the work that we assigned to one another for the Web Analysis, and worked on the second part of this presentation as a whole. We had a quick meeting before our presentation in order to go over the final points we were to make for the presentation.
Our team has also met for a couple of hours this week and have started to work on the second part of the Web Analysis. During this session, we brainstormed ideas and came up with the main important points we plan on discussions for this assignment. We also did a little more research on Wanelo in order to find out more information about how the website works, which will ultimately lead us to a better website analysis.
Over all, the Digital Dream Team continues to constantly keep in touch through Google Docs, set up meetings, and text messaging. Our communication with one another is important in completing all projects through out the semester.

Website Analysis Project
Although it was difficult to meet
given the recent weather conditions we managed to meet on Thursday January 31,
2013 and decided as a group that we would do our analysis on the website
Wanelo.
We divide step one of project evenly
among all us while still staying connected via Goggle docs. Kate handled the
business model and Damarley worked on the website’s infrastructure while Ana
took care of Wanelo’s website optimization. We were able to review and critique
each other’s work and stayed in constant communication using Google docs to
ensure that we all stayed on the same page and that our paper was flowing
uniformly.
As a group we came together again
on Friday February 7, 2013 and worked on step two of the project. We gathered
our components from step one and had a final group discussion on the overall
assessment and effectiveness of Wanelo.

Dream Team Work Week #1
This week was the preliminary stage of our project. Our first assignment consisted of creating a short YouTube video that explained who are group was, what company we chose and why.
So the how did we go about this? Time, effort and more importantly team work.
Our group met several times over the course of the week to develop the video and construct our first part of the paper. We brainstormed during the first meeting...how can we use our marketing knowledge and give this video a creative twist?
We wanted to use graphic and sound aids to create a fun video that was not boring to watch. After planning the outline of the video we gathered all the pictures and sound clips. Damarley used his technical skills to wrap the whole video up and we were happy with our final output.

We began to take the things we were learning in class and pull ideas for our paper. What kind of revenue model does Netflix have? Is the company differentiated in their business model? Do the have a competitive advantage over other players in the market? And finally, how does all this effect our groups marketing plan?
Our group has set at least two times during the week when we can meet and update everyone on the research we found for the second part of the project. We hope that using Google Docs will allow us to constantly work on the paper so everyone can see the changes and our paper can have a nice flow.
We were assigned a second project where we analyze another e-commerce site. We split the project up into three parts so each member could do their allotted research over the weekend and we plan to meet Tuesday before class to see what each member found and edit our paper together. The following is an outline of what each member was assigned to analyze.
Ana: Website Optimization
Damarley: Infrastructure
Kate: Business Model
Curious about what site we chose? It's a surprise until next weeks blog so look out!
